About the Owners Past and Present
Trevor and Stephanie Croteau: purchased Growler in February 2012. Growler was renamed to Hjortie. My mother-in-law (who passed away 6 years ago) was nicknamed "Hjortie". Hence the tugs new name. I am a bit superstitious so all my of boats are named after my mother-in-law. I have a 2008 Boston Whaler Dauntless named "Miss Marilyn". She's been my successful guardian angle for many years. Hjortie represents my ongoing passion for boating. I'm often asked "Why a LNVT?". I can cite many configuration reasons (i.e. low draft), or the unique design of the boat. But in the end it's like Al and Sally of SALLY W stated, These boats bring a smile to your face everytime you look at one. And that's really cool.
Stephen and Julie Sell: purchased Growler on November 7, 2008. From a 13 November 2008 email Steve writes: My wife, Julie and I, own our own company and buy, renovate and sell houses in northern Delaware. At heart, however, we are artists and our plan is to use our Tugboat as a floating artists workshop and platform to explore and enjoy the Chesapeake Bay and east coast. My wife does sculpture, pottery & painting. I do a little photography, some woodworking, tinker with scooters and old boats, guitars and ukueleles. Julie and I previouisly owned sailboats the last one being a Friendship Sloop. I love the tradiitional boats and beautiful woodworking and that was one of the things that attracted us to the Lord Nelson. We love the idea that we own a Tug Boat with such distinctive lines.
Dr. Terry Powers: was a long time owner who lovingly spared no expense totally refurbishing Growler. In 2001 he replaced the existing Cummins engine with a new one. Read more about Terry.
Allerton D. Marshall:I bought the boat in Tarpon Springs, Florida in 1995 from the first owners, who had lived aboard for 10 years. It was called Captain Evie after the owner’s wife, who had a license. I renamed her Growler as my boats have always been so named, since my first one, built in 1886 in Long Island. I bought a new Krogen 39 in 2000 and named her Growler. I loved the boat but had trouble maintaining the engine in the rather cramped space. But she always turned heads entering a harbor!
