About the owners (current and former)

Alex & Suzanne Neil An IT Geek (he) and a retired Elementary Phys Ed Teacher (she) we are coming from sail and are very excited about our LNVT #7, now "Tugnacious". We were unable to get her around from Maine/NH to the Mid-Hudson valley this year. But she's wintering in Newington NH and getting a lot of work done. The Marina where she's wintering has removed all the decrepit gear (an old Furuno array with a hooded display, a Raytheon plotter that had stripes of dead pixels, and a small Garmin). After much deliberation they installed a Raytheon C90W, RD418D Radar, G125 GPS mushroom (although the C90W supposedly has an internal satellite sensor that works inboard - I prefer the assurance of an external one), and a DSM300 sounder. All tied into the C90W. Next up they'll repack the stuffing and rudder boxes (she's been on the hard a while), remove and rework the prop, replace the cutlass bearing, install new zincs, clean out the water tanks, repair the mast lights the compressor and the display lamps on the distribution box, replace some glass, rebed the ladder, change some through hulls for brass, and secure the hawse pipe. Whew! The remainder of the work is cosmetic. If there's anything left in the budget (doubtful) we'll get started on that. She sat forlorn for too long. We expect to bring her around in late March or early April. Thanks to all who have volunteered their advice. It's great to have such an active group of owners for support. Read about Tugnacious' first cruise.

Robert A. Gannicott a geologist by training, he ran a fleet of helicopters which serviced oil companies in northern Canada. On one memorable day he saw what looked like a meteor crater and set the helicopter down to check it out. The ore samples he took revealed the site to be a proverbial diamond mine—one of the largest in Canada. According to Forbes, Robert is now (in 2009) the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Harry Winston Diamond Corporation. This information came from Captain Asa Gatlin, a Tow Boat U.S. skipper and boat mechanic who has worked for Deaton Yacht Service, in Oriental N.C., for 25 years. In 1999 he spent 9 months doing a major refit on Piteraq: replaced the BMW engine with a new Yanmar; installed an Aquadrive; new wall laminate; a new wet muffler; and rebuilt the cable steering.

Jim Zimmerman says that he absolutely loved his tug Choto.  In fact, it was one of the best purchases he ever made.  Unfortunately a situation came up that caused him to sell her.   Jim continues, "I purchased  the boat in 1991 from a doctor in Hilton Head Island South Carolina.  After a little work I had CHOTO moved to Chattanooga, TN and used it on the entire Tennessee River and south on the Tom Bigby Waterway to the gulf.  Then, I sold it in the summer of 1993 to an engineer from Canada who was going to use it to live on for the working months in the oil fields of Newfoundland and then back home to Canada during the winter  months."  From an email dated 16 July 2012
