Owner History

Joe Zaraschi and Cynthia Lummus:"…my wife and I have taken over the stewardship of the 'John William'. Having actively sailed my 38' 1928 Crocker designed ketch for the past 46 years, and wanting to go on 1 last long cruise, my wife informed me the sailboat was too small with not enough living space. And our other boat an open Fay & Bowen 1908 torpedo stern launch wouldn't get the job, we had to start looking around When the John William came available, we realized that this L|NVT was set up for cruising. Our goal is to do ST. Augustine (where it is presently stored) to the Keys, out to the Bahamas and then take a "slow bell" up the ICW back to New England. The boat will be renamed 'SEQUOYAH' after the Cherokee who provided the Cherokee nation with a written language. The only indigenous group to do so." from a 19 August 2023 LNVT Forum Post.

John and Sue Mackie: "We have been boating for 40+ years together with many different boats behind us and all but 2 were trawlers of some kind. We semi-retired on board our 53 foot custom steel trawler and cruised for 2 years before settling on Merritt Island and a warmer climate than our native Michigan. After selling the 53 and going back to work we down sized our boats and have done our cruising close to home with a couple of Bahama trips thrown in along the way on our present boat a converted commercial fishing boat of 30 feet. With retirement not to many years away we settled on the Larsholm to be our winter home in Florida with a summer home somewhere north of the heat in the summer. The Larsholm needs lots of TLC and we will spend the next 18 months to 2 years making repairs and changes that we feel will make it a comfortable little tug." from a Sept. 2008 email.

Bill Larsson: For 33 years Bill was a crew member on Exxon tugs, the last 20 as captain of the tug Exxon Maryland. He worked on the Hudson River, Long Island Sound, and the Conneticut River. After retiring he bought his LNVT Larsholm. It seems right that Bill would pick an LNVT--its lines were inspired by another New York working tug, the Moran. Larsholm spent her first five years based out of Point Pleasant, NJ. Bill and Larsholm then moved to Stuart, FL where they continued to do tug work together—albeit on a smaller scale.
